March 10, 2021

To any veteran gamer out there, it's clear how far technology has come in the world of gaming over the years. The twenty first century ushered in game changing advances in virtual reality, voice and facial recognition, high-def displays, and amazing graphics - among other things.

Yet, nothing says nostalgia and really, truly takes you back like the classic arcade games. The "cha-ching" of coins falling into a machine. The crack and roll of Skee-Ball. And the unmistakable "blip, blip, blip" of your Pac-Man gobbling a ghost.

These are the games that many of us remember pumping quarters into as a child as we vowed to beat that high score or sought to reach the final castle and battle the boss. Galaga, Mr. (and Mrs!) Pac-Man, Skee-Ball, Frogger, the list goes on.

Up for a quick trip down memory lane? Check out our favorite home arcade collectibles - from retro decor to  classic games made modern, and built for the comfort of your own home.

"What's your favorite vintage or retro arcade game?"

Classic Arcade Games

Before we go forward, we must first go back and acknowledge our roots. Before consoles even existed, the first games were old arcade game machines that you’d have to wait in line to play on.

Dating back more than a century, Skee-Ball took America by storm as the original alley roller and go-to game at carnivals, boardwalks, and amusement parlors - finding a place in the American vernacular alongside things like roller coasters and saltwater taffy. This classic arcade game of skill laced with chance is a must have in any home arcade.

Like the Skee-Ball arcade game, classic Pac-Man takes us right back to the '80s. Developed by Namco with the original Japanese name Puck Man which was changed for international release, the all too familiar object of the game is for the title character to eat all the dots before the ghosts Blinky (red), Pinky (pink), Inky (cyan), and Clyde (orange) catch him!

But when it comes to leveling up your at-home arcade experience, accessories are everything.  Make the walls your second screen. Must Have Home Arcade Accessories

Gaming Chairs and Other Seating

Gaming chairs have been likened to thrones in recent years. When you're relaxing in your home arcade, waiting for your turn to hit that "hundo" in Skee-Ball, it's important you have a chance to relax in style. Think about form and function when rounding out your seating options.

Lighting and Ambiance

Just like normal interior design aesthetic, the colors that make up your home arcade room set the atmosphere for you and anyone you play with. Smart LED lighting has become a fixture in most modern game rooms, as they allow gamers to take full control over their lighting design, as well as ensuring that their lighting stays flexible and adaptable in order to enhance a variety of different gameplay experiences. In this case, it's okay to go modern to get that classic arcade feel.

Bonus Points: Arcade Style Food

It's safe to say the general consensus of having a good time, playing great games, with people you enjoy - can only be topped by one thing, the accompaniment of tasty food. Bonus points to anyone who can craft their snacks in the shapes or in honor of their favorite classic arcade game.

Bring the Arcade Home

In a nutshell, no basement, rec room, or home arcade is complete without the classics. Keep the good times rollin' with Skee-Ball or make the neighbors jealous of your Pac-Mancave. Ready, Player 1?
